Overview

The Certificate III in ESI - Power Systems - Distribution Cable Jointing will teach you about laying, installing and maintaining de-energised low voltage (LV) and high voltage (HV) underground polymeric cables, installing and maintaining electrical equipment, and jointing and maintaining energised LV underground paper insulated and polymeric cables.<p>The course is designed to fit in with workplace and licencing needs and incorporates training in the competencies required for high-risk work licences: CPCCLDG3001A Licence to perform dogging TLILIC0005 Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more).

Pathway to further studies

  • The program provides a pathway into the ESI Industry as a Cable Jointing or related tradesperson in ESI.
  • Apprentices who have completed the qualification continue with Industry Skills training to gain the specialised skills required for their Industry Skills Passport and meet the refresher training requirements for their job role.
  • Apprentices may also choose to continue formal study and complete a post-trade qualification, to move into specialist roles within the industry. A common study pathway includes UET40109 - Certificate IV in ESI – Power Systems.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years of age.<p>This course has been designed as an apprenticeship program in the Electrical Supply Industry (ESI) sector. <br>Holmesglen requires all learners to be employed with an ESI provider, and registered in an ESI Distribution - Cable Jointer Apprenticeship agreement. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age to meet the minimum age requirement set by Energy Safe Victoria for training and working in the Electrotechnology field.<p>Note: the Training Package qualification for this program was superseded as of 19 September 2021. Apprentices who are not expected to complete by the teach-out date will be transferred to the new training package.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training, you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Assessment

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

How to apply

Apprenticeship
